Disasters happen in our day to day lives. The challenge is that there is no adequate mechanism for communicating anticipated disaster information to the potential victims under threat. EWERDIMA Stands for Early Warning Early Response Disaster Management.
For the development of the EWERDIMA Device, the EWERDIMA team has received an inkind support from Arduino towards the development of the EWERDIMA Unit prototype. The prototype will be used in the designing of the final device that will be installed in different households.
Daniel Nanghaka the founder of the EWERDIMA Platform, “After intensive research, on communication mechanisms, I found out that the problem that causes loss of lives during disasters is that there is a communication gap between respective stakeholders like governments, police, and other stakeholders.” He further emphasised that during disasters, loss of lives occur due to the fact that the victims do not have adequate ways to inform humanitarian organisations and officials about there current state.
EWERDIMA is a platform that will bridge the information gap between disaster victims and respective stakeholders. The user will be able to communicate by sending an alert message to the respective stakeholders. This will also act as a channel to disseminate information through dedicate radio channels about an anticipated disaster.
